Counterpart

Make the part that fits.

Scan something with your iPhone, send a photo of it, or just describe it. Counterpart makes the part that fits it on your Mac, then prints it on your own printer.

Counterpart is in early testing and isn't available to download yet.

Four ways to start

Scan it
Scan the real thing with an iPhone or iPad that has a LiDAR scanner. It captures the shape in millimetres.
Photograph it
One or two photos and a sentence about what you want. A ruler or caliper in the picture helps with sizes.
Describe it
“A hook for a 25 mm tube that holds a mug.” Sizes in your words are enough to start.
Paste a link
A published model on MakerWorld or Printables. It prints the designer's own file, credited to them.

How it works

  1. Send it from your phone

Your scan, photos and description go straight to your Mac, over your Wi-Fi or your own private iCloud. Counterpart has no servers of its own.

  2. Your Mac makes it

Counterpart uses your own Claude Code login and Blender to make the model, so Claude sees what you sent. If it can't see a part well enough, it asks you for a close-up.

  3. Check it on your phone

See pictures and the size in millimetres. Ask for changes in plain words, like “make it 2 mm wider”.

  4. Print it

Choose your printer and filament, see the time and filament it needs, and confirm on the printer's own terms.

What you need

Help

Quick answers below. The full guide is on the Help page.

My phone can't find my Mac

Check that both are on the same Wi-Fi and that Counterpart is running on your Mac (its icon is in the menu bar). On your phone, open Settings, then Counterpart, and turn on Local Network.

The pairing code says it expired

Codes only last a few minutes. Click the Counterpart icon in your Mac's menu bar to show a fresh code, then scan it with your phone.

Making it stopped with an error

The message on the object says what went wrong. The usual cause is Claude Code not being signed in on your Mac. Fix that, then open the object and tap Try Again.

It asked me for a close-up

Your Mac couldn't see one part clearly. Take a photo close to that part, or tap Best Guess to let it carry on without one.

The print has not started

Open the project to see the latest printer status and any message from your printer service.

The size is a little off

Phone scans are good to a few millimetres. For a part that has to fit exactly, measure the important size with a caliper or ruler and tell it in plain words, or put the caliper in a photo.
